The great guys of The Buried Life (http://www.mtv.com/shows/buried_life/season_2/series.jhtml) played a huge role in my life by inspiring me to start the kindness movement. In fact, one of the things that I wanted to do before I died was meet them. Tonight I did. Well, half of them...Ben was kind enough to sit down and listen as I briefly explained Project Change The World and our latest initiatives. Duncan gave me a great, rocking bear hug and liked my colorful outfit! What really amazed me the most though, was probably the fact that as I was sitting right next to Ben talking, I just looked at him and thought, "He's just an ordinary guy living out his dreams. What a beautiful thing. If he can do it, why can't I?" Their message was one of inspiration and hope and I absolutely love these guys. They get it. They see that the world is ours and not something to be afraid of but rather something to go after and believe in. I believe that anything is possible. Tonight was evidence as I recall Ben's arm being wrapped around me for a photo moment and thinking to myself, "Is this really happening?" It did. It can for anyone. You are only as limited as you allow yourself to be. Go out and live life to the fullest. Live it and love it. Don't hold back. Thank you The Buried Life for showing us all that. You guys are something special. Much love to you.

I was looking through my old composition book the other night, from a year ago. This is when it all began. The dreams that I had scribbled out wishing upon for my upcoming birthday. Things that I wanted to accomplish, not for myself, but for a world that needed love. I wanted to make the world a better place. That was all I wanted for my birthday. If only I could have imagined then, the doors that would soon open. A year later, The World Changers have taken care items to the homeless, volunteered every week with Hands On Charlotte over the summer, collected donations for a family in need, attended annual walks, and most recently, threw our own "do good" day! In the coming months, we plan to complete a food drive, sing Christmas Carols to the homeless as well as taking them additional care packages, collect toys for kids that wouldn't ordinarily get anything during the holidays, attend the St. Jude Give Thanks Walk, help the Salvation Army, take a personal pledge to each get an Angel off the Angel Tree, and do anything else positive that we can come up with! I am also in the process of shooting a documentary with footage from our wonderful fall festival among other things, as well as getting a space to be called, "The Inspiration Room." This will be a special place for anyone that wants to make a positive impact on our world. Here we will gather to hold meetings, individuals will come out to be inspired and work, we will make new friends, and ultimately, learn, create, and collaborate to change our world! The community room will have an open-door policy so everyone is welcome to come out and be inspired to make a difference. If you would like to support us in this latest project, please consider donating whatever you are able on our home page at the bottom. We cannot change the world alone. You are as much of a part of this as we are. Together, as one, please give me the greatest gift for my birthday of all: love. Remember, not for me though. Your support stands for so much more...
"I'm busy." "It's my day to relax." "I have work (but that's a lie)." Or a simple, "I can't." These are some of the common responses we hear everyday when we ask people to do something unnecessary. But is it really unnecessary? Let's take a factual journey together: 70 MILLION tons of carbon dioxide are released into the atmosphere everyday, in America alone about 112 women die everyday from breast cancer, 72 MILLION kids are out of school globally, there are 1 BILLION hungry and 1 BILLION that lack access to clean water. Got it? I don't think so. There are thousands of endangered species, nearly HALF the world lives on less than $2.50 a DAY, about a BILLION people can't read or write, 640 MILLION kids live without adequate shelter globally, an estimated 40 MILLION live with HIV/AIDS, and child abuse is reported every 10 SECONDS. Am I done? Not even close. Each year there are as many as 500 MILLION cases of Malaria, 1.8 MILLION children die every year from diarrhea, every 15 MINUTES someone in the US dies from suicide, each year drug abuse leads to 40 million serious illnesses or injuries in the US, a woman is raped every 17 SECONDS in South Africa, about 750,ooo people are homeless in the US, 1.6 BILLION live without electricity worldwide....The only time I will ever stop is when we fix all of these problems. So is it necessary? Don't tell me. Show me this Saturday from 3-7 pm at Les Myers Park in Concord, NC (338 Lawndale Place Southeast, Concord, NC 28025 704-782-1715) through your support as we make the world a better place by showing you how YOU can be a part of something beautiful.
Happy October! I love this month because it's the month of our BIG event blast-off! It's also Breast Cancer Awareness month, Adopt a Shelter Dog month, National Diabetes month, Domestic Violence Awareness month, and Lupus Awareness month. Oh, and Cookie month of course. So about this event? Yes, PCW Day is a day ALL about doing good. More specifically, we are throwing a fall festival to encourage and inspire others to give back to the community and make a difference in the world! But we're not going to just get them all excited by telling them they, ordinary people, have the power to do extraordinary things. No, we are going to actually SHOW them and you how to get started in a movement that will change life as we know it, for the better. Some will say it's impossible but I thank those people because they push me even more to show them nothing is really impossible. Walt Disney said it's kind of fun to do the impossible, after all. I love that guy. Even more, I love helping the helpless, giving hope to the hopeless, and giving a voice to those who have none. Join me. Besides the live music, entertainment, signature balloon launch, talent show, raffle with prizes, games, inspirational speakers, and of course the nonprofits that are already making an impact there to give you information, you should be there because the world doesn't change without people that dare to believe it can and then act upon that belief. Believe. Anything is possible. Doubt it? Come out and we'll show you- October 15th, Les Myers Park in Concord, NC from 3-7 pm. We'll change the world together.
It's ironic that I titled this "sun" when it is in fact pouring outside! But my reasoning behind it is that people choose to see the dark and everything that goes wrong. I admit that I sometimes do the same but I've gotten a lot better. Especially considering that the fact that I have a roof over my head, a place to sleep, clothes on my back, and food on the table makes me richer than 75% of the world's population! Nonetheless, I know that there is a lot of hidden good that people fail to see. If it weren't for the rain, the plants wouldn't grow. The land would dry up. So bring on the rain.
Some updates: -New quote and fact with pictures on the home page! Special Features is still being updated weekly too! - Fall Festival (PCW Day) preparation is under way but still looking for the following things: - volunteers - participating causes that are making a difference - prizes for our big raffle - perfect location (park with stage) - t-shirt designer - entertainment acts * Let me know if you can help! Here's to seeing the beauty behind the "bad!" First things first, PCW would love to announce that we are having our first, BIG event in October. "PCW Day" will be our very own fall festival with live music, food, guest speakers, entertainment, kids' activities, a talent show, and most importantly, featuring those that are already making a difference in the community! Since many people struggle with knowing just how to positively impact the world, I thought what better way to help than to just bring the resources to them! Therefore, informational areas will be set up for the various nonprofits and individuals participating to present their information to those who seek it. Many will even be guest speakers to give everyone an overview of how to help. Anyone wishing to make a change in the community and/or world should definitely check out the event as we are going to not only tell you that you can do something but show you how! Bring your kids, bring grandma, bring your dog because we will have stuff for the whole family! The event will be at a local park for several hours so if you're interested in more info, please contact me. We are looking for volunteers to help with the event, donations for our raffle, and people that are already changing the world! If anything, just come out and show some love.
On a side note, I have added two new causes to the Special Features page and added new facts, quotes, and pictures to the Home page. View when you can. As always, spread the love a.k.a. the movement...together we CAN change this world ;) Sometimes things don't always work out the way we expected. As a result, it's easy to shut down and just throw in the towel. Or maybe hiding under the covers, shutting off your phone, and staying in bed is more of your style. Either way, that doesn't solve anything. I admit that it is much easier to focus on all the things that go wrong in your life, but that's no way to live. That doesn't change a thing and I'm here to change the world. I'm all about change. That's why, when faced with difficulties, as I currently am, I have to keep on going. After all, failure reminds us of the success we're after. If it was too easy, we would take it for granted. Consequently, Project Change the World will go on despite obstacles ahead and we will be stronger for it. I hope anyone reading this realizes that nothing good in life ever comes easy. It's a great life lesson. So here's the sunshine on this rainy day: I've updated the "Follow Us" Section, the "Blog", and the "Special Features." Please check it out at your own convenience. Have a blessed day, month, and year! And remember running away may be easy but facing your problems takes courage. Be brave. You are.
Hey guys! Hope everyone is enjoying their summer! I actually had a very enjoyable experience this morning mountain biking with kids in need for a local program called, "Trips for Kids Charlotte." Volunteer programs and charities unfortunately don't get a lot of press coverage but they are very much out there. In fact, I already have over 60 listed here: http://www.diigo.com/list/projectchange/organizations. Just know that if you want to help out, it is very much possible. You may only have to do a little searching but it is well worth it. If you ever want recommendations, check out the list linked above, email me, or click on Special Features above for the weekly winners. It's not as hard and time-consuming as one may think (admittedly I did) to become a do-gooder in one's community. Most of the events I do are only an hour or two with great variety. Once again the Hands On Networks are an awesome way to get started as well as Volunteer Match. Both of these resources are nationwide, as well, but you can limit your search to your local area. Therefore, I'm dedicating this month to all the volunteers and organizations that truly do make a difference in our world. You all rock!
Welcome to summer ya'll! Here in the south, we can definitely feel it! I know for one, I've been living at the pool lately but other then that, more importantly, I've been living to do good through the movement. Which brings me to my next point, just wanted to remind everyone to please "Like" us on FB and follow us on Twitter, as well as subscribe to the YouTube Channel please. All links can be found under the "links" tab above. I've also decided to continuously add new dates for upcoming events in the area under the "Follow Us" tab above. When new events are decided, I will update that page. If anything interests you, you know what to do (give me a shout). I would also LOVE to have you on the team, even if you don't live around here. If anyone is interested in being a captain of a new team in their own city, by all means, hit me up! I'll help you get going with that. Little bit of good news is that we will hopefully get some local coverage soon as well as expand the team. We hope to throw our own festival event at the end of summer, as well, and are looking for organizations or individuals that want to be a part of that. Just let me know, as always! Also, don't forget to check out our Diigo Hotlist under the "Links" tab above which will take you directly to valuable resources that can help YOU change the world such as an extensive list of organizations: local, federal, and worldwide. Finally, if you want to actively join the movement offline but don't know how or maybe you even have a brilliant, or somewhat brilliant, idea...please don't be a stranger! You're voice matters.
It is nearing closer to summertime and I'm feeling warm-spirited all around! We have a lot in store for the month of June, so it's important that you don't just check out the website once and never come back. In fact, check out our FB pages, Twitter, and YouTube accounts often, as well, to stay informed. I'm excited to announce that I've finally changed the quote, facts, and pictures on the home page for this month! I've also added new videos to the home page, the old ones have been moved to the "Photos & Videos" tab above, and all of the videos can also always be found on our YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/PChangeTheWorld?feature=mhee#p/u. Subscribe to the channel too, if you haven't already please. I've also added a few extra things to the home page, here and there, so make sure to look at it all and vote in our poll! Don't forget our message boards either under "find your voice," above. I've also posted upcoming events in the month of June under the "Follow Us" tab above, if you are interested in joining the team or volunteering on your own. If you're local to the Charlotte area, "Hands On Charlotte" is a wonderful and user-friendly resource to find a variety of events that interest you. The "Special Features" page has been updated as I've added two more significant causes too. Finally, if you live around here, please consider joining our team, the "World Changers" as we hold meetings to come up with ways that we can improve the community and then go out and take action through volunteering and throwing our own events! It will be a lot of fun =) Don't miss out. As always, if you have any questions, or want to get more involved in ANY way, please feel free to contact me at [email protected].
