Lately, I have had a lot on my mind but more importantly, put in my heart. I have trouble living in the moment and enjoying the here and now. I tend to get caught up in plans for tomorrow and making sure that the future is always in my sight. I'm always waiting for that next opportunity. "When such and such happens, then I'll be happy..." However, this past Sunday at Elevation Church, I heard a message that really resonated with me. Granted, they all seem to speak directly to me but this one had real meaning. We are all put in a certain season of our life for a reason. Often our detours are God's destinations. Sometimes, He has to reroute us back on a better course or put a stop sign in front of us to open our eyes to our current situation. If we get stuck worrying about next week, month, or year, how are we supposed to appreciate today? These moments are the moments of our life and right now will never happen again. I dislike taking that for granted, yet so often, I find myself envisioning the future instead of being present today. Instead of staring at my computer screen for hours sending out emails, updating the website, creating event listings, and planning gatherings, I am taking a personal commitment to not neglect the relationships and circumstances around me right now right here. The Pastor's wife encouraged us to turn our waiting rooms into work rooms because God may have placed you in this season to fulfill a specific purpose, grow in a specific area, or impact a specific person. That last segment really speaks to me. There are people that I have the opportunity at this current time to help and I need to not take that for granted. I also know that I am not perfect either and always have room for growth. Instead of complaining about the waiting process, I am going to turn the waiting room into a working room and get to work on doing some meaningful, powerful stuff for all those directly in my life now, myself included. It is time to stop taking things for granted and start being more appreciative. What about you? Do you ever find yourself stuck in another day rather than appreciating this one and only moment? Anyway, our destination is always moving because if we ever really quite got there, life would be over. Once we reach a certain destination, another one appears. It's about the journey. Don't take that for granted.
