The first meeting and events for the PCW team yesterday was a success! The five of us watched enlightening videos, learned more about our community, and planned for the future, while enjoying some pepperoni pizza. We recruited a new member for the team while at our first event, and the "ONE" conference in the evening was very insightful as we learned that less than 1% of America's budget is spent on poverty, education, clean water, and other important issues overseas. It's amazing to me that a country with such wealth can be so greedy. It's time to change that.
6-4-11
Welcome to June and sweet summertime! Some of the events on the agenda for this month include: bingo and game nights with the elderly at several different locations, working with the homeless, poor, and children of addicts, sorting clothes and food, gardening, charity walks, bike-riding, volunteer training by "ONE", tutoring, event planning meetings, delivering items to those in need, bowling, cleaning up the parks, and more! If you'd like to help some, please don't hesitate to contact us. Please also make sure to check ALL of our pages often for new updates! <3 Love

On Sunday, we will be volunteering at a local park for a walk that benefits finding a cure for Cystic Fibrosis, an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system of approximately 30,000 kids and adults in the United States and 70,000 worldwide. The name of this specific walk is called "Great Strides" and it is the nation's largest fundraising event for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Thousands will come together in a community for this one cause! I am personally so excited to be a part of all that! Generally, people with this disease may suffer throughout their lives and have shorter life-spans. I hope one day there is a cure but until then, PCW is happy to raise money to find one. For more information about Cystic Fibrosis and Great Strides, please visit their website at: http://www.cff.org/great_strides/cffactsheet/. Time to work towards saving lives!

Mission H.H. part two was a huge success. Fortunately, even more homeless folks were reached out to this time around! We took them food and clothing and talked to them for a bit. We met a very friendly, elderly gentleman named Cliff who happened to be a former cancer patient that happily shook our hands and another older, African American woman who was grinning from ear to ear. Both seemed overjoyed to see us and it was evident that what we were doing really touched them. In fact, it nearly brought my companion to tears. Seeing the looks on their faces and their appreciation, made every second worth it. We also were able to meet with the Property Managers of a low-income housing facility for the elderly and met some other crucial contacts that worked at homes for both recovering alcoholic/drug addicted men and single mothers and children. In the near future, we are hoping to plan more upcoming events with them, as well. Hopefully soon, Mission H.H. will also be in effect again. Until then, take care and keep changing the world friends! Love-SQ

In two days, on December 30th, we will be heading back downtown to continue with part two of Mission H.H. We will be needing as many volunteers as possible so if you're free, let us know! We will pick up where I left off, handing out donated supplies to those less-fortunate. Let's get together and make a difference! -SQ
