Do everything in love." -1 Corinthians 16:14
That homeless woman with her coat pulled up and her hat pulled down, curled up in a ball on a bus bench downtown, yeah I've met her. We'll call her Molly. Molly is freezing and alone because our world has chosen to serve money instead of love. And one cannot serve two masters without hating the one and loving the other. The two men huddled up in a dinky sleeping bag in front of a church when it's 20 degrees outside, I saw them too. I imagine they were thinking to themselves, "How long? How long must I live like this? Will I have a bed tomorrow night? If not, will I catch the cold, the flu, pneumonia, will I freeze to death?" Yet, right down the street people are partying their faces off with alcohol flowing through their bloodstreams. I can't help but wonder if some of these homeless people were once in those shoes themselves. Nevertheless, when we don't choose love, we have a hard time, if not impossible, humbling ourselves with a servant's heart to give more than we take. Then, charitable organizations don't have the help that they need and when that happens, they shut down. As a result, the forgotten stay forgotten and abandoned. They die with no dignity and in silence. Follow me? It's simple. Volunteers keep charitable nonprofits going which in turn, keep people alive. Your love service determines whether people live or die. You have a choice, when so many don't. Will you choose to have a charitable heart?
